Time & Location

21 Jun 2023, 10:00 – 22 Jun 2023, 16:30

FarmED, Station Rd, Shipton-under-Wychwood, Chipping Norton OX7 6BJ, UK

About the Event

We are pleased to offer a 2-day practical course introducing Cotswold dry stone walling. Combining theory and plenty of practice, the course will give participants with little or no experience of the craft the opportunity to dismantle and rebuild a field wall using traditional techniques.

By the end of the course, participants will have understood and put into effect the key principles involved in the build and maintenance of these quintessential features of the British countryside. They will also have shared an enjoyable and worthwhile outdoors experience in the company of others.

The course will take place at FarmED, and all necessary tools and equipment will be provided. The course will also include tea and coffee on arrival and lunch in the FarmED cafe. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement on completion of the course.

Who Is The Event For?

This course is for anyone who wants to have a go a dry stone walling. If you are considering a career in the land-based sector, and would like to see if you have an aptitude for dry stone walling, or if you are simply curious about dry stone walling, or are perhaps thinking of developing it as a hobby. You may be considering taking walling up in a voluntary capacity, or adding it to a portfolio of land-based skills. If so, this course will give you a firm grounding in the principles of dry stone wall repair and maintenance.

Jeff Green

The course will be lead by Jeff Green, a LANTRA-qualified dry stone walling professional based in Bath. Jeff holds the LANTRA Certificate of Competence in Instructional Techniques and is professionally registered member of the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain. He is a member of the National Trust’s Regional Advisory Group and a volunteer Ranger at the Trust’s Dyrham Park site. He holds a FAIB Certificate in Emergency First Aid at Work. Since 2019, he has built, restored and maintained a variety of field and residential dry stone walls in the region, including prestigious projects in the city of Bath.
