The Treehive Project

Beekeepers Tanya and Esme Hawkes - the founders of Therapi Honey Skincare - have joined forces with the brilliant tree sculptor and naturalist Rhys Davies to create a series of natural 'tree dwellings' for the wild honeybees at Honeydale Farm.

‘The Treehive Project at FarmED is the realisation of a long-held dream to take the bees back to the trees,’ says Tanya.  ‘Hollow cavities in old trees would have been a common feature in the ancient forests of Britain, and many honeybee colonies would have lived wild and unmanaged in this wooded landscape.’

The installation of Treehive #1 in Spring 2020 was beautifully captured by Jason Taylor from the Source Project - a filmmaker who specialises in telling stories about our relationship with nature, food and farming.
