About the Event

Would you like to be able to link agroecological principles with farming practices and processes that reduce reliance on external inputs and support the transformation of farming and food systems? If so, join FarmED and the Land Workers’ Alliance for this two day Introduction to Agroecology.

By the end of this course you will have a firm understanding of agroecological principles and practices, and will be able to use this knowledge to analyze farming challenges and begin developing agroecological solutions to overcome them. Throughout the two days you will:

  • Explore various definitions and principles of agroecology
  • Consider how agroecological farming practices can help achieve objectives on farms
  • Gain skills in systems thinking to analyze farming problems and imagine solutions
  • Witness agroecological practices and systems in action at FarmED and Conygree Farm & Cotswold Market Garden
  • Learn the importance of the social, political and subtle dimensions of agroecology

As well as being inspired and gaining new knowledge from these two days you will have lots of opportunity to connect with other agroecologically minded participants in the classroom, over meals and around the campfire at Conygree Farm (more details below).

Who is this course for?

If we are to successfully create agroecological food systems we need everyone to be involved! That’s why this course has been designed for those working with the land (farmers, growers, graziers, and new entrants), those who market, process or purchase food, and those who are engaged with farming and food research and policy making.

Throughout the two days there will be lots of group activities designed to support peer-learning and to encourage innovative thinking between folk from different walks of life. All you need is an open-mind and willingness to learn!

Ticket details

A range of ticket options are available depending on your accommodation preference. All tickets include two days of training, meals and refreshments (see below).

The event menu will be based on organic, local, seasonal and pastured produce sourced from FarmED, Conygree Farm and other local agroecological farms.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No101000478. Ticket prices have been subsidized using this funding thanks to Land Workers' Alliance and European Coordination Via Campesina as part of the Agroecology For Europe project.

If you require additional financial support to attend this course please contact us.

Accommodation

At the end of day one, course participants will make their way to the award winning Conygree Farm for an informal gathering in Jonty and Mel’s wildflower meadows and giant hat tipis. Here we’ll gather for a BBQ and evening around the campfire followed by a second day exploring the farm and continuing our learning together. Staying over is optional, but for those wishing to stay at Conygree farm there are a range of accommodation options detailed in the ticket menu below.
