About the Event

Our 5th March 'Introduction to Agriculture' course has now sold out, click here to see our next date.

The Course

This course is ideal for people with little or no agricultural experience who are either entering a career in the rural sector or are interested in what is happening in the fields around them. Whatever your background, this course will provide a foundation of knowledge to be built upon.

71% of the land area in the UK is farmed, we can help you understand what is happening in the fields around you and why the UK landscape looks like it does.

During the day we will cover the history of UK agriculture and how the landscape and food systems we see today have evolved. You will be aware of the farming year, looking at livestock, arable, horticulture and environmental schemes. We will aim to cut through the jargon and explore words like regenerative, sustainable, conventional, organic and carbon neutral. You'll leave with an insight into farmers' challenges and what can be done to help them.

There will be a combination of indoor and outdoor sessions including a walk around the farm looking at everything from the food we produce, the wildlife we share the land with and the roles that people play.

You will leave with a basic understanding of UK agriculture, a network of contacts and routes to further information.

Get your questions answered
