The food system is changing in a big way. The last time we saw this degree of change was in the 40s and 50s with the advent of the supermarket model which quickly dominated the food shopping paradigm. This gave advantages to large-scale producers who could supply enough volume to fill all the shelves all at once.

Today we are seeing a new shift on an even larger scale, with the advent of online food shopping models. This time, however, it’s the small-scale farms and food producers who have the advantage.

Launching the start of our series of Lunchtime talks for 2024, Pete will explain why and how, and answer many other questions such as;

• How, as a consumer, can I support small-scale producers? 
• Could this mean I don't have to go to the supermarket anymore? 
• What does a local food hub look like in practice? 
• How do I set up and run a farm-based food hub? 
• What support is available? 
• How much time and money is involved?

About the speaker:

Pete Russell is the founder of Ooooby, an online platform for small farms and local food producers to sell and deliver directly to homes. Ooooby’s mission is to put ‘small-scale’ back at the heart of our food system. More than 80 UK farms and food hubs are now using Ooooby every week to deliver local food to over 10,000 local households.
