Join Andy Howard of the Heritage Fruit Tree Co. for a day learning how you can make your fruit trees more productive and fruit more regularly.Â
Subjects covered  include:
- Summer pruning versus winter pruning of top fruit.
- Why we should summer prune.
- How a tree grows, root stock sizes and vigour, fruit buds vs growth buds.
- Summer pruning of pip  fruit.
- Summer pruning of stone fruit.
- How and when to summer prune trees, espaliers,step-overs, cordons.
- How to make your own espaliers, cordon, step-over or festoon.
- What tools we need and how to use them.
(Equipment for pruning / making your own espaliers will be available to buy. Including Silky saws, Okasune secateurs, turnbuckles, wire, vine eyes).
After lunch, there will be a chance for practical working on trees with a site visit to FarmED's own on-site Heritage Orchard.
