An Introduction to The Regenerative Diet

Regenerative agriculture has been gaining ground as an alternative to conventional agriculture. Its actual and potential benefits for the environment, animal welfare, and biodiversity are clear and well documented. A key benefit that has not been sufficiently explored is its potential to transform the human diet from a diet increasingly dominated by ultra-processed foods and animal products from factory farms to a healthy diet built around whole foods grown in living soil. Drawing upon the history of agricultural science and nutritional science, and the pioneers of the organic movement, Federico will argue that much of the confusion and conflicting advice around diet, nutrition and obesity could dissipate by a “regenerative” approach to food and farming.

Join Federico Filippi, who will also imagine what the national diet could look like if we adopted regenerative farming methods as a nation and consider the potential changes and nuances, including:

• What would a diet in which herbivorous livestock play a crucial role look like?
• How would we deal with lower cereal production?
• Would we still be growing oilseed rape and would our attitude towards animal fats need to change?
• Would the “gluten free” phase come to an end? How would we think about sugar?
• How should regenerative farmers lead the way and market what they do from a diet and nutrition perspective?
