FarmED, Honeydale Farm, Station Rd, Chipping Norton OX7 6BJ, UK
About the Event
Explore the colourful and diverse butterflies at FarmED with expert naturalist Nick Patel. Read More...
Over the last decade, FarmED has diversified its habitats and environments and these changes have led to an increased number of butterfly species living on the farm. This growth in insects is a great indicator of the health of the farm ecosystem and vital for the food chain for many of our locally scarce wildlife.
Join us this summer for a guided tour of the farm to look at the different wildlife, wildflowers and habitats on site and learn about the vast assortment of butterfly and insect life flourishing around different areas of the farm. With expert guidance from Wilder Skies’ Nick Patel (and FarmED’s Alex Dye), you will leave with a greater appreciation for the smaller characters in our ecosystem, from the colourful and charismatic to the subtle and shy!
Come along for a bountiful summer wander and see some of July's finest lepidoptera species on the farm: Locally important species such as Marbled White, Common Blue, Small Heath, Essex Skipper, Brown Argus; summer classics such as Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral, various Whites, Holly Blue, Meadow Brown, Ringlet; and day-flying moths, the likes of Burnet Moth, Silver-y, Mother Shipton, Mint Moth, and many more!
This event is brand new for 2026 and we hope you will join us to celebrate nature at its most uplifting!
About Nick Patel
Super passionate about British wildlife, Nick has worked at several reserves as a warden, helping to improve habitats, and has trained at various RSPB reserves. He is particularly passionate about wetland habitats, wildflower meadows, grasslands and how regenerative farming can help to change perceptions about what farmers can do to make space for nature. An experienced walk leader, eco-communicator and naturalist, Nick now works independently to educate the public on conservation matters whilst showcasing some of the most amazing wildlife the UK has to offer.
