About the Event

How diverse is the insect life now at FarmED? Join our resident entomologist Alex Dye for a talk on the wild side of the farm. Read More...

Since Honeydale Farm began its transformation into FarmED in 2013, the land has changed and diversified almost non-stop. This diversification has led to new habitats being formed, such as the ponds of the flood management, areas of trees and agroforestry and rich wildflower strips. This has, in turn, led to an increase in the diversity of insects living on the farm.

FarmED team member and entomologist Alex Dye has been monitoring insect life on the farm for the past two years, observing how these different habitat types have allowed insects previously uncommon to the farm to thrive and in turn, benefit the local ecosystem. From pollinators to predators and parasitoids, the farm is bustling with brightly coloured, beautiful and bizarre insects all providing their own ecosystem services.

Alex Dye is the Public Engagement Coordinator for FarmED. Prior to this, he worked at Rothamsted Research running insect pest management and identifying insects from across the country with the insect survey.

Please arrive at 11:45 am to grab a hot drink. The talk will start at midday, and lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.

After the talk, you will get a freshly prepared, nutritious lunch from the FarmED Cafe where you will be able to network with other guests.
