Mob-Grazing at FarmED

Updated: Sep 7, 2020

By mob grazing our sheep we add organic matter to our soils. By leaving plenty of leaf we capture sunlight and encourage living roots. Eat a third, leave a third, trample a third in. It’s still dry out there but our diverse herbal leys are coping well with our current stocking rate of 28,000kg/ha, moved every day.

Mob grazing can be time-consuming. In order to make the system more efficient, we’ve added some new grazing infrastructure including mains water around the leys with hook up points, portable Kiwitech troughs, and mains electricity for the fencing.
