About the Event

The Caribbean island of Grenada is renowned to produce some of the world’s finest cocoa, with 100% of its cocoa considered ‘fine flavour’ (only 12% of cocoa globally has this classification). With loamy, volcanic soil and hilly terrain for water runoff, Grenada has the ideal environment for cocoa production. All Grenadian cocoa is naturally regenerative, following agroforestry methodologies, with intercropping fruit and spice trees. In her talk, Bobbie shares her journey of building a chocolate business from cradle to grave that is rooted in equity and sustainability between Grenada and The Cotswolds.

After rediscovering the beauty and flavour of the cocoa grown on her family’s organic cocoa farm, L’Esterre, during the pandemic, she spent the following three years slowly building a fully-owned supply chain; the end goal being that the chocolate enterprise would fully support the family farm. L’Esterre Chocolate was finally launched in late 2023, and operates bean-to-button from a self-built factory on her husband’s family farm Warwickshire.

(Of course, the talk will be followed by a chocolate tasting!)

After the talk, you will get a freshly prepared, nutritious lunch from the FarmED cafe where you will be able to network with other guests.

About the speaker:

Bobbie is a 4 th generation cocoa farmer and chocolate maker. She grew up in Grenada, before pursuing higher education and working life in the UK. What started as a career in fashion in London, her curiosity of food systems got the better of her which led her to jump ship after only a couple years. She grew her experience working in regenerative agricultural initiatives across East Africa, before making her way back home to Grenada, with the objective of building a business from the family farm. She founded L’Esterre Chocolate in late 2023, which operates between Grenada and Warwickshire.

Please arrive at 11:45 am. The talk will start at midday, and lunch will be served at 1:00 pm.
